A large scale, 39-year study of over 45,000 women has disputed reports that the oral contraceptive Pill can increase the risk of disease. Published in the British Medical Journal, the study has in fact found a slightly protective effect of long term use of the Pill against conditions such as cancer, heart disease and stroke.
